Three-Layer PE Heat Shrink Sleeve

Three-Layer PE Heat Shrink Sleeve

The Three-Layer PE Heat Shrink Sleeve delivers mechanical protection and corrosion prevention for steel pipeline field girth welds.

Three-Layer PE Heat Shrink Sleeve (3LPE Field Joint Coating)

The Three-Layer PE Heat Shrink Sleeve delivers mechanical protection and corrosion prevention for steel pipeline field girth welds. Engineered to match factory-applied 3LPE coatings, this system integrates a solvent-free liquid epoxy primer, a co-extruded copolymer adhesive, and a radiation-crosslinked high-density polyethylene backing. It forms a continuous, bonded moisture and cathodic disbondment barrier for onshore and offshore pipeline networks. Compliant with international infrastructure standards including ISO 21809-3, EN 12068, and AWWA C216.

Key Features

Continuous Corrosion Barrier: Triple-layer composition chemically and mechanically bonds steel, epoxy, and PE to prevent moisture ingress and soil stress corrosion.

High Peel Strength: Maintains structural adhesive bond integrity across fluctuating ground operating temperatures.

Mechanical Resilience: Withstands backfill impact, rock impingement, and soil shear stresses during shifting ground conditions.

Thermal Shrink Memory: Controlled transverse recovery ensures uniform wall thickness and tight conformity around irregular weld bead profiles.

Field Installation Efficiency: Applied using standard propane torches with clear visual heat-sensitive shrinkage indicators.

Quality Control & Manufacturing Capability

Production utilizes automated compounding extruders and electron-beam crosslinking units to guarantee uniform molecular density across every production roll.

In-House Testing: Every production lot undergoes destructive peel adhesion testing, thickness verification, elongation testing, and shrink ratio analysis in our certified laboratory.

Traceability: Laser-etched batch numbers on the sleeve backing link directly to raw material test certificates and extrusion logs.

Compliance: Manufacturing processes operate under ISO 9001 quality management systems, meeting ISO 21809-3, EN 12068, and AWWA C216 performance benchmarks. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TUV) supported upon request.

Packaging & Shipping

Packaging: Sleeves are rolled, packed in heavy-duty corrugated cartons, and secured on fumigation-free wooden pallets wrapped in moisture-resistant PE film.

Storage Requirements: Store in a dry, ventilated environment below 40°C, protected from direct sunlight and UV exposure.

Shelf Life: 24 months for sleeves; 12 months for liquid epoxy primer.

Shipping Terms: EXW, FOB, CIF, or DDP via ocean freight or air cargo. Standard export documentation includes Mill Test Certificates (MTC), Packing Lists, and Commercial Invoices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What pipe operating temperatures are supported by this sleeve?

A: Standard formulations support continuous operating temperatures up to 80°C (Class B). High-temperature variants formulated for up to 100°C (Class C) are available for high-enthalpy pipeline projects.

Q: Is liquid epoxy primer mandatory for installation?

A: Yes. The two-component liquid epoxy primer is a core structural component of the 3LPE system, providing active corrosion inhibition on the bare steel surface and high-strength bonding for the adhesive layer.

Q: What equipment is needed for field installation?

A: Installation requires abrasive blasting equipment (to achieve Sa 2.5), a wet-film thickness gauge, a propane torch or gas heating rig, temperature-indicating crayons, and a silicon rubber roller for air-pocket removal.

Q: Can these sleeves be applied on damp steel surfaces?

A: No. The steel surface temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point, and the surface must be completely dry, clean, and free of oil or dust prior to epoxy application.

Q: What is the standard shelf life of the epoxy primer and sleeves?

A: The liquid epoxy primer has a shelf life of 12 months when stored properly. The heat shrink sleeves maintain mechanical and adhesive properties for up to 24 months.

Q: Do you provide third-party inspection reports with shipments?

A: Yes. Each shipment includes a comprehensive lot-specific test report covering peel strength, thickness, and elongation. Independent laboratory testing reports (SGS/BV) are available for submittal packages.
